Study Description
Postpartum depression affects up to 1 in 5 mothers, however only about 10% receive evidence-based treatment. Public Health Nurses (PHN) play an important role in screening and detection of PPD in the community, yet a lack of referral options means PHNs often provide support to these moms without specialized training.
In this randomized controlled trial that aims to assess the impact of a PHN-delivered 9-week group CBT intervention, participants with PPD are assigned to either the treatment group or the control group. Participants in the treatment group attend a CBT program that includes 1 2- hour session each week for 9 weeks delivered online via Zoom by PHNs. This intervention designed to be brief, simple, and applicable to women in community settings. The usual care group will receive standard postnatal care from Niagara Region Public Health, their obstetrician, midwife, and/or family physician.
We Aim To
1) Acutely treat PPD
2) Reduce relapse and recurrence
3) Improve common complications and comorbidities of PPD (including maternal anxiety, mother-infant attachment, and infant temperament)
