Dr. Ryan Van Lieshout
Principal Investigator

MD, PhD, FRCPC

Ryan is a perinatal psychiatrist with more than 10 years of experience treating women, pregnant people, mothers, and birthing parents with psychotherapy and/or medications during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at McMaster University, wrote the Canada’s national clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of perinatal depression and co-authored Public Health Ontario’s Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit.

He has published more than 200 papers on maternal perinatal health and offspring neurodevelopment in scientific journals and is the Canada Research Chair in the Perinatal Programming of Mental Disorders at McMaster University. He is the Albert Einstein/Irving Zucker Chair in Neuroscience and has been named a Member of the Royal Society of Canada and is co-director of Elle Psychotherapy.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Graduate Students

Those interested in pursuing PhD studies should forward their CV and a statement of interest to Dr. Van Lieshout at least one month before the application deadline to verify that there is a fit between the research interests of the applicant and Dr. Van Lieshout. Successful applicants should have excellent references attesting to research potential and a CV demonstrating evidence of scholarship and research ability
