Sawayra Owais is a 5th year MD/PhD Candidate in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Western University and her Master’s in Neuroscience at McMaster. Sawayra’s current research interests lie in Indigenous perinatal maternal mental health and the mechanisms underlying the intergenerational transmission of psychopathology from mother to offspring. Her career aspirations include being a clinician-scientist working with underserved populations, including mothers with mental health problems. Outside of school, Sawayra enjoys watching online gameplays, learning how to play squash, and crafting greeting cards.
