Neda Mortaji

BSc

Neda Mortaji is a 2nd year PhD candidate in the Neuroscience graduate program at McMaster University. Her PhD thesis primarily focuses on the Be Healthy In Pregnancy (BHIP) study, which is a randomized controlled trial examining the effects of maternal nutrition and exercise intervention during pregnancy (compared to pregnancy care as usual) on offspring cognitive and emotion regulatory outcomes at 12, 36 and 48 months of age. Offspring cognition and emotion regulatory abilities in children are assessed using gold standard measures including neurophysiological assessments, laboratory tasks and informant reports. Neda is hopeful that if this maternal nutrition and exercise intervention improves child cognition and emotion regulation, it could prevent or ameliorate problems with children’s cognitive development and their ability to manage their emotions/behaviour, which could significantly reduce the burden of cognitive and emotion regulatory difficulties on children and their families. Outside of school, Neda enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and prepare new dishes for her family to try.
